Industry analysts have compiled detailed global predictions for ransomware damage costs from 2015 to 2031.
For the year 2026, we estimate that ransomware costs will soar to $74 billion annually. This figure translates to approximately $6.2 billion monthly, $1.42 billion weekly, $203 million daily, $8.5 million hourly, $141,000 per minute, and $2,400 every second.
Looking back, our initial prediction for 2015 set the annual cost of ransomware at $325 million. By 2031, we expect ransomware to impose costs exceeding $20 billion per month, a significant increase from the estimated $20 billion per year in 2021.
The costs associated with ransomware encompass various factors. These include ransom negotiations and payments, damage and destruction of data, stolen assets, downtime, lost productivity, theft of intellectual property, personal and financial data breaches, embezzlement, fraud, and disruption to business operations post-attack. Additionally, expenses related to forensic investigations, restoration and deletion of compromised data and systems, reputational damage, legal fees, and potential regulatory fines are also significant contributors to the overall costs.
