Verdict

Trend Micro optimizes for the way most people actually get compromised: the web. Its phishing and fraud-page blocking is among the best in this guide, and features like Folder Shield and Pay Guard target the two attacks with real consequences — ransomware and banking theft. Heavier scans and a busier false-positive record keep it out of the top tier.

Protection

In recent public lab rounds Trend Micro posts strong protection numbers, with a particular reputation for web-threat and phishing detection. The trade-off shows in the usability columns: it flags legitimate software more often than the top-ranked engines, which costs it trust points over time.

Performance

The soft spot. Background impact is acceptable, but full scans draw hard on the system, and the labs' performance columns consistently place it among the heavier suites. On recent hardware it's tolerable; on an aging machine you'll schedule scans around your day.
